Our family enjoyed this book a lot! My only complaint is that I wish she hadn't called him a bum at the end. That's now my two year old's favorite thing to call people... Yay...

I love this story and read it as a child. I ordered it for Christmas for my girls and was so disappointed when it arrived. It is not a regular sized book like I had as a girl, but a tiny book that is the size of my palm. Looking over the description, I can see that if you click the "read more" link at the bottom, it does say that this is a mini book, but I really think it should be stated clearly in the page title.

It's ridiculous that you have to dig through the "read more" description to find out that this book is unnecessarily tiny, about 3 inches by 3 inches. Whomever designed this must not know anything about small children. My niece wanted to hear the story and look at the pictures but literally could not see them because everything was too small, so the present was completely useless. The size should be on the main description, not hidden in the detailed description. The book itself, though, is fantastic! We need more books like this for little ladies. I'm adding one star because it was very easy to get a refund and another because the book itself is very good, but that description is very misleading.

This story is fantastic. My daughter is like most little girls, she loves Disney Princesses and although I like them too I am not overly fond of the message they send. This story is a wonderful and funny way to counter that message. The problem I have with the ACTUAL product is the size. This book is tiny, itty bity, minuscule, etc. If I put this "book" in my purse it will disappear and never be found again. If your child likes to hold the book while you read to him/her, you will have an issue with the size of this little paperback. Granted, it is a cute size to behold, but totally impractical. If you can find a larger size, buy it. I have attached a photo of the book next to a penny and a business card so you can get a good idea of how small this book really is.

The rating is for the book, not the size of the book. After hearing of this book, we wanted to have a copy to read to our young family and friends. We were VERY surprised to see that this paperback was VERY tiny at only 3.5"inches x 0.1" x 3.5"inches. And after reading other reviews, it mentioned a 2nd picture showing the book in the palm of a hand. We did not see that when we ordered ours.We would never have thought we had to check the "size" of a book when it did not mention in the title that it was a miniature series book.That being said, we only paid $1.79, so we're not upset, just surprised. Our 3 year old family members will love it.

This book is a New Family Favorite!!!!!! The story line was a little harder to keep up with for a five year old but it does offer many laughs. When the Princess is standing there "naked", it elicited deep belly laughs from Julie. Even though the drawing does not really show the girl naked because she is covered appropriately, Julie laughed and laughed that how could a girl be naked in a book? My daughter loved that the girl was wearing a paper bag. Did she have any under clothes on? Oh No! Is she still naked? While my daughter did not get that the Princess is the one that tires out the dragon, she did think it funny that the Dragon could no longer burn up the Princess. She thought that the Prince was rude to the girl but then she thought that the Princess was rude to the Prince at the end as well. I am so glad we bought this book because it is one that will be read over and over and over.

The story is great - an engaging, fast-paced, and welcome counter-narrative to the princess-with-little-agency-who-needs-rescuing genre. It’s highly recommended by Mighty Girl, from which I clicked through in order to give them a small portion of the sale.The writing is a shade too spare and clipped for me, and while I like the illustrations, they don’t “pop” as much as some other books. One star off for that.A second star off for the packaging. It came in a one of those large mustard yellow lightly padded envelopes, and the mail carrier stuffed it into our mailbox. As a result, the paperback is somewhat curved and misshapen. Sturdier packaging would’ve helped. C’mon, Amazon!

Good book but tiny size. It should be stated more clearly in the title. In fact, the picture of the book shown is the original (which I have) and not what is received. Hence I was very surprised when I got such a tiny book. (See my the picture for the original vs what is received). As I see now that there is a second picture that shows its size but the first picture looks just like the full size original that I had. I also now see there were several reviews by people having the same problem and missing the second photoAnother thing I noticed is there have been some changes in wording which I think are not for the better.

I bought CMOS 17 primarily for two reasons: (1) my CMOS 16 was battered and torn, beaten down by years of abuse and page-cornering; (2) I like to keep up with the changes, even if Bowie is dead. And a third, if I’m truly honest—I like to carry around a giant book so people will think that I can read. I’ll try to restrain my comments to those related to #2.The biggest changes in content in CMOS 17, compared with CMOS 16, are an added subsection on syntax and expansion of the discussions of copyright and permissions. These changes should be especially helpful for writers, and Chicago notes that as well in the Introduction. I also noted new tables and additional examples scattered throughout the text.Another change one may not notice without CMOS 16 in hand, unless one happens to be a publisher/typographer, is with fonts. The inline subheads now use sans serif fonts and a deeper bolding, and the major heads use less bolding and all-capping. (You like it? Sure, use it.) Generally, the font sizing, capping, bolding, etc. is in the direction of making everything look more contemporary.As another reviewer noted, United States as a noun can now be abbreviated “US” rather than “USA” or spelled out (about time). The two main technology-related changes in usage (really more like spelling than usage): (1) “email” replacing “e-mail” and (2) “internet” replacing “Internet,” are welcome as well. For those, like me, for whom the use of singular “they” and “their” is deemed horrific except for those writers too lazy to rewrite, take solace—Chicago still supports your worthy cause. Heed the warning signs, though; Chicago now leaves this writing abomination to editorial discretion. Language is a slippery slope, my friends. One day it’s prim and proper and attending a kiddie birthday party, the next it’s getting hammered under a bridge with a bunch of dropouts. Look out.As was the case in CMOS 16, the index is quite extensive and a great example of what a reference index should be.All in all, a nice update. Not groundbreaking by any means, but the updates accurately reflect changes in technology and the ways words are used contemporaneously.Some may find this whole thing a bit weighty (pun intended). If so, I recommend GARNER'S MODERN ENGLISH USAGE by Bryan Garner (still weighty and not quite as comprehensive, but a bit more entertaining—and Garner is the contributor of the Usage chapter in CMOS, so the information in his book is consistent with that provided in CMOS) and EDITOR-PROOF YOUR WRITING by Don McNair (nice and short but absolutely loaded with information that can make a subpar writer an above-average one—maybe). Given the number of discordant reviews of his book by obviously failed writers (and because I've read it cover to cover and can attest to its quality), I'd say McNair has a live one.

This is pretty much THE resource for fiction editors and writers. I remember over the years--I have various editions-- finding some of the rules really stupid (still do). Even so, this is a very good resource to clarify some rules of usage that we can forget or we never learned in school.I used this back when I edited. I keep it nearby when I go blank on some things about capitalization or approved style or usage, etc. It's a thick book and not as user-friendly as I would wish. It would be lovely if folks who bought a copy of this pricey tome also got access to more examples at the CMOS site and ongoing notifications of revisions of rules before the next edition released. In the digital age, this is not that hard to do.As far as changes: One of the changes is that the previous recommendation to always spell out "United States" no longer applies. Using "US" is now appropriate as well. Also, they do not prefer the use of "ibid" anymore for multiple citations; rather, they recommend the use of short citations. Some changes to hyphenation-- head hunting becomes head-hunting; e-mail is now email--and some differences in certain uses of commas are also included in the new edition. Also, Internet loses its capital to become "internet." And find how to do a citation for quotes from Twitter. :)Bottom line: pricey, but useful for knowing what is the "preferred" use/style of punctuation, syntax, etc.

I did not read the reviews beforehand and that was a mistake. I cannot recommend the kindle edition at all. It's not clear if this is even the actual CMoS. Either way, it was like someone just copy and pasted from the print edition. It still has page numbers from the print edition in the kindle format, breaking up pages. There is no table of contents for navigation. Many of the symbols apparently did not carry over from the print format, as words are spelled and some symbols translated to simple gibberish.

One of my professors once told me that this was the "bible for historians," and for anyone in the humanities in general, it is indispensable. It is at once a style guide, a sort of thesaurus, and a manual for writing term papers, theses, dissertations, and books. Sure, Turabian distills this book (and the sin of the latest Turabian is that in a misguided attempt to appeal to more people, they've added a parenthetical reference system to the footnote system she popularized), but sometimes you must turn to the Chicago for more information.As a historian who works on maps, I am still angry that Chicago does not treat them as a source, just illustrations. (Which means Turabian denigrates them, but at least mentions them, and says to put them in quotes, like an article, instead of italics, like a book.) But, I digress. After a few hours of browsing through this book I think it is a good update, more examples, more citations from internet sources, etc.

It's easy to find the rule you're looking for, and they include multiple examples of each rule.

Not "The Chicago Manual of Style", just some short guide. Not clear on buying page.

Total junk. Amazon should remove this as it makes them look bad. Going to request a refund!

This is not a manual to be taken seriously. There are more errors bad spelling lack of grammar it is not a real manual of the CM Style. Do not waste even your Kindle download cost.

All New Classical,rational expectations,real busines cycle ,and New Keynesian economics is built on the normal distribution.The other side of the coin is that the microeconomic foundations of macroeconomic behavior are assumed to be specified by SEU (Subjective Expected Utility)theory,which is just a more mathematically advanced version of Jeremy Bentham's original Benthamite Utilitarianism of 1787.In other words,modern macroeconomics,without any empirical or experimental support from goodness of fit tests or exploratory data analysis,simply " assumes a can opener",i.e.,that all comsumers and producers who are rational are able to calculate the odds of all outcomes,specify all the possible outcomes ,and then calculate and act upon their expected values or expected utilities.Keynes correctly identified this approach as a very special one with practically no theoretical relevance in the real world .The best way to understand what Keynes did in the General Theory is to compare his general theory of decision making ,as illustrated by the c coefficient model Keynes presented in chapter 26 of the A Treatise on Probability (1921) ,with SEU.One can then effortlessly conclude that " Modern " macroeconomcs is just a very special case of Keynes's general theory whcih assumes linearity and additivity so that one can assume a normal distribution. First of all, I'm a huge Rolling Stones fan. I'm also a third-grade teacher, so I was elated when I saw this book had been released. Despite the fact that this is a kids book, I felt the need to preview it. As far as the quality of the book, I think it's great. There are plenty of details, side notes and fun illustrations. However, there is some mention of drug use, jail time, and general statements explaining why they were the bad boys of rock and roll as opposed to the Beatles. Now while there is no real detail about these subjects, I definitely don't want any parents on my back about their kids reading about drugs in my classroom! So despite my desire to turn my students on to cool music, this book is going in my personal collection of Stones books.So to summarize, the author did a great job on the book and I recommend it. Just be aware that the kids will be reading a truthful account of our Stones!

I had no idea that this genre of books existed until l I ran across this book. WOW....there are many more about other bands and important folks in history!

About the Author

Ralph Waldo Emerson, the son of a Unitarian minister and a chaplain during the American Revolution, was born in 1803 in Boston. He attended the Boston Latin School, and in 1817 entered Harvard, graduating in 1820. Emerson supported himself as a schoolteacher from 1821-26. In 1826 he was "approbated to preach," and in 1829 became pastor of the Scond Church (Unitarian) in Boston. That same year he married Ellen Louise Tucker, who was to die of tuberculosis only seventeen months later. In 1832 Emerson resigned his pastorate and traveled to Eurpe, where he met Coleridge, Wordsworth, and Carlyle. He settled in Concord, Massachusetts, in 1834, where he began a new career as a public lecturer, and married Lydia Jackson a year later. A group that gathered around Emerson in Concord came to be known as "the Concord school," and included Bronson Alcott, Henry David Thoreau, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Margaret Fuller. Every year Emerson made a lecture tour; and these lectures were the source of most of his essays. Nature (1836), his first published work, contained the essence of his transcendental philosophy, which views the world of phenomena as a sort of symbol of the inner life and emphasizes individual freedom and self-reliance. Emerson's address to the Phi Beta Kappa society of Harvard (1837) and another address to the graduating class of the Harvard Divinity School (1838) applied his doctrine to the scholar and the clergyman, provoking sharp controversy. An ardent abolitionist, Emerson lectured and wrote widely against slavery from the 1840's through the Civil War. His principal publications include two volumes ofEssays (1841, 1844), Poems (1847), Representative Men (1850), The Conduct of Life (1860), and Society and Solitude (1870). He died of pneumonia in 1882 and was buried in Concord.Larzer Ziff is a research professor of English at Johns Hopkins University who has written extensively on American literary culture.

For anyone who enjoys beautiful prose with intellectually stimulating ideas and thoughts--this book is a "MUST-HAVE" for your library collection! These classic and quotable essays are enlighting and refreshing! If you (like I do) reject the Transcendentalist doctrine and theology, you may find yourself dismissing a couple of the essays as too tasking ideologically as they are at times on the fringe of transcendental ideology. Emerson's use of the English language, however, is a breath of fresh air in this era where the common vernacular is characterized by the grotesque abuses of ebonics, profanity, and laziness. It would be incredibly wonderful if all Americans would return to the most eloquent and beautiful use of our language as Emerson does.

Emerson is amazing, one of the most talented writers in the english language, full of dialectic sophistication, loving intuition, poetic beauty and astute observation. This is a great collection of essays, which contains a rare assortment of favorites: experience, self-reliance, history, and the skeptic.

I've always been a huge Ralph Waldo Emerson fan. Any fan of literature and nature that has not read this definitely should.
