Best Laid Plans is sweet in its love story. Chase and Max use each other to get what they want. Max wants to keep his job, Chase wants a better life and someone to call family. I love marriage of convenience books. I love watching the characters fall in love when they least expect it. I love seeing them work hard to maintain their relationship and how they appreciate the love they have together.E.M. Denning stretches her writing wings with this book. It's Mpreg, which sold me right away. It's set in a world that differs from any other Mpreg book out there and that kept my interest. Normally you get omegaverse books where the alphas are the ones in charge and in a lot of them omegas are nothing but incubators. I love how she turned that on its head and made the alphas as nothing but sperm donors. Of course, our characters don't think like that, but society does, and it's refreshing.I wanted to hug Chase. He was so lonely, reduced to nothing but his infertility. He had a job he liked, but that was about it. I hated how lonely he felt. I wanted to love him because he deserved so much more than he was getting.Max was also lonely. He might not have realized it, but he was. He chose Chase for his infertility. He wanted to keep his job and he allowed society's stifling views to influence some of his decisions. I don't blame him, but it took a bit to endear me to him because he allowed himself to become blind to Chase. It was easy to forgive him when I was able to see how much he cared, but still, Max needed a little wakeup call and I'm glad he didn't take too long in his realization.Both men try to make the best of their situation. They're both kind and caring and they stand up for each other before they're even really friends. It's nice to see and it eases their loneliness a little. To see their friendship turn to love, even if neither of them knows what to do with that.Since this is Mpreg we do get to see how Chase and Max deal with Max's heat. Much to the characters' surprise, we get a baby out of it. Their reactions are varied, but I was expecting this part and I thought it was handled well. It was sweet and true to the characters with no more drama than was necessary. Chase and Max were in a place in their relationship, where even though they had very different reactions to the news, they were still able to support each other.Best Laid Plans was sweet, it told a love story that showed how even what seems like the best of plans can go awry in the best of ways. I hope we get more in this world because it's a fun twist on the omegaverse and I would love to be able to explore it more.
Author created a new and original story with a unique twist to the usual Omegaverse books. Omegas and Alphas roles in society are reversed. Omegas are the ones who choose their Alpha, they are part of high society. Alphas are tested and if compatible and fertile, either are chosen by an Omega to support and father children or left to jobs and areas that no omega would choose them. This story was about an older Omega named Max, set in his ways, running the family business and didn't want an Alpha and lose his position to stay at home to raise children, as society would expect. Learning that his family is going to force the issue he comes up with a plan. Finds himself proposing to Chase, the same day they meet, an Alpha who tested infertile. Chase, unable to work with children like he would love, works with abandoned animals. Liked by all, and not your usual Alpha, Chase is young and has given up on his dream of a family. Max and Chase find themselves married and drawn together. With society against them, an Omega who wants to work and an Alpha who wants to raise a family, but who can't have one, they are perfect for each other. If only they could find a way to get what they both desire. With an unexpected twist they find themselves faced with a chance. I loved this story. With the unique characters and universe that stands out from the rest it was refreshing. Different enough to draw you into story and keep you reading to the last page. Tired of the same old books? Want something new? I recommend this book. And as a plus this book has my favorite type of characters. Unique and not what you would expect, a handpicked family, and hot with just the right amount of sweet. Would I recommend this book? Yes. Would I read it again? Yes. Can't wait for the next book in the series.
I am already a fan of E.M. Denning's work (especially the Upstate University series-go read it!) but have enjoyed all I've read. I was excited to see this author branching out into another favorite genre of mine with omegaverse/mpreg. I was definitely not disappointed and I really loved this book!I absolutely loved the twists on typcial omegaverse presentations in this. The omegas have the power and the alphas are in the place we usually see omegas in. Now of course in a perfect world everyone would be completely equal all the time, but perfection doesn't exist in life and I love that the dynamics are realistic and relatable. There was also underlying depth here-yes, the roles are atypical, but sometimes the feelings and challenges are still there regardless. The omega has the power, but they still have fairly set roles, so then Chase & Max took it a step further with re-defining how THEIR new family would work-amazing! And Max goes to more lengths with trying to improve things for the Alphas and getting help working towards overall changes that will be better for everyone-so he's not just talk and no action when he realizes how things really work for Chase and fellow struggling alphas. I love both characters and they fit perfectly once they figure themselves out a fit-also very relatable how they had to discover their path a bit. When they get further on their journey, their chemistry was on fire and I loved seeing their emotions develop as well. The world was also well done and I liked the secondary characters we saw some of...hopefully we will see a lot more of some of them in additional books too!Overall very well done and a great read. I really hope to see more of Star Valley soon!
