In this new book Mimi shares a 6 week plan to get you ready for the beach, a wedding, class reunion or just to super charge your weight loss efforts. Intermittent fasting has been life changing for many. I am on a number of forums where members share their stories and the results are incredible. Many say it is the easiest method they have ever used to lose weight. I personally have lost weight, lowered my blood pressure and improved my blood work results with a combination of intermittent fasting and calorie counting.The book starts out by revisiting "the FastDiet" book by Dr. Michael Mosley and Mimi Spencer. It condenses "the FastDiet" to give a core view of the program and its benefits. In a nutshell to lose weight on the plan, women eat 500 calories per day and men 600 per day two days a week. On the days off eat normally. The Fast Beach Diet then proceeds to scale the basic program for accelerated fat and weight loss.To super charge weight loss, the book gives tips on what foods to eat, what to buy at the grocery store, how to get in the right mindset and more. You can pick and choose from this section on what you feel will be doable for your lifestyle. Though many of the tips have been shared before, I like the fresh way Mimi presents them. For example, most of us know to select as many natural foods as possible. Mimi shares this by saying, to look for food products that have as little packaging as possible. The less wrappers, boxes, cellophane etc. the fresher it probably is. I hadn't thought of it that way. So she gives new ways of looking at old tips.This section also includes how to tweak the fasting. Here she gives an overview of alternate day fasting, 24 hour fasts etc. Many people find that with intermittent fasting they can eat what they want on non fast days and lose weight. However, others (like me) have found that combining it with calorie counting can result in even greater success. And counting calories along with fasting is one technique Mimi shares can help you accelerate your results. The key take away from this section is little things add up. Choose what works for you and make the adjustments for long term, big results. And if you are aiming for super fast results try to really tighten up everything you are doing i.e. cut alcohol etc. for at least the 6 week duration.The latest research on exercise is covered in the book. Mimi shares a summary of Dr. Mosley's book "FastExercise: The Simple Secret of High-Intensity Training" which indicates that high intensity training (HIT) for just a few minutes can be far more effective than hours of steady state cardio. Sample plans for running, swimming and other activities are included. Just to note there are some awesome free apps that will walk you thru short HIT programs. I personally use a countdown timer app and combine it with a free interval walking program I found on the net.The book includes a list of snacks for fast days, a shopping list and easy grab and go menus. It also includes recipes including Oat Berry Smoothie, Italian Seafood Salad and more. I felt some of the recipes were pretty simplistic i.e. there is one for scrambled eggs and another for boiled eggs. It is not a book I would buy for the recipes but what was included was nice.The back of the book includes a step by step 6 week plan on what to eat on fast days if you are having breakfast and dinner or dinner only. This can be adjusted if you are having lunch. You can opt to follow the program menu or use your own menus. And since this is the FastBeach diet, Mimi even included tips on the type of swimwear to buy to look your best!And of course my very favorite section is the inspirational stories at the back of the book where those who have done the FastDiet and lost share their success. I love this section, I just wish photos were included.If you are debating between buying this book or "the FastDiet" book, I would suggest this one if you want a step by step plan and tons of tips and the original book if you are looking for the science behind it. If you already own "the FastDiet" this is a nice supplement with ideas to accelerate your progress.On a side note - I purchased the Kindle version and the formatting is very good. The back of the book includes charts you can fill in. These are available for free download on the author's website. In addition, there are free apps available to help you with your goals. There is a free Fast Beach Diet app you can download (information on the FastBeach website) And if you want to combine it with calorie counting there a number of free online sites and apps. I personally use MyFitnessPal to track.Overall, this is a great way to kick start the intermittent fasting plan or accelerate your efforts. My biggest tip for others would be to join Facebook groups and visit the author's Fast Diet site for tips, support and inspiration. There is nothing like seeing someone's before and after photos!

A really good supplemental book on 5:2!I'm glad that MIchelle Harvie's studies were mentioned; I partially follow her protocol of two CONSECUTIVE days of fasting. There are studies out there that show this method just burns more fat.This book is a gem; filled with tips and information that applies to any form of fasting! Amazing diet the only diet that does not feel like a diet and becomes a lifestyle change. It works lost 14 lbs in 8 weeks

The Fast Beach Diet is a handy guide to taking the original 5:2 diet to the next level to accelerate weight loss for a period (e.g., six weeks) in order to prepare for an event such as a holiday, wedding or school reunion. I did not see much new science but lots of helpful tips and ideas and some great recipes. The basic difference to the 5:2 is that instead of eating what you want on the non-fasting days, you restrict calories to about 1,800 a day. Exercise is also a crucial element. Having let things slide a little over the last few months, this is the motivation I needed to get on track again.

Going down, down, down, the weight is going down.

This book is a simple introduction for ancient egyptian hsitory.It is well organised and tells you just about everything that you need to wet your apetite of egyptian history.It is very general but well documented.

Receiving it earlier than expected adds more stars. The reading was very interesting, would definitely recommend it to many others if they have an essay to write.

The book is very vague and lacks any real sustenance in any particular topic. This book is a fair starting point for the beginning Egyptian enthusiast but is not for the serious Egyptian researcher.

This book, whose chapters are organized topically, presents important aspects of ancient Egypt. It covers the history, cities, government, geography, language, beliefs, art, architecture, tombs, religion, monotheism, gods, society, marriage, entertainment, dress, jewelry and the Nile river. The authors also discuss the ancient Egyptians' beliefs in life and their conception of death. Common archaeological and Egyptological terms are explained in the glossary. An excellent bibliography is included. A recommended well-written book, it is most useful for those who know little, if nothing, of this civilization and its people.

This is a wonderful overview of Egyptian history and culture. The authors are very good at moving through broad patterns of reasoning, making great internal connections and contrasts with the information that they present. They also do a great job of comparing Egypt to other ancient cultures. It's hard to demonstrate just how clear and insightful the essays are, but, trust me, this introduction, though fairly devoid of pictures, has a lot to offer.

For my fellow dark dystopian gay relationship-ish types. Monster delivers flawed and interesting characters with depth and this off-kilter charming quality that shouldn't be possible. Written well in third person present tense, giving intense and introspective emotions, combined with good dialogue, atmosphere and action, Monster is really interesting reading. It delivers an edgy, mistrustful feel combined with snark, humour and some organic sexy moments. The world building is centred around Vertex, a murky corporation with some ethical issues, and builds throughout, never letting you down or off the ledge, even in lulls, or what you perceive is going to be a nice moment. I loved the MCs, Jarod and Gabriel, they're quirky and offbeat - just the way I like them best - and the supporting cast didn't let me down either, no matter the colour of attire the company allocated, or their reasons for being tangled up with Vertex. But my heart, it's with Jarod and Gabriel. I need more of them now.Excellent writing and editing.Atmospheric.Interesting characters, main and secondary.Appropriate and well written horror for the dystopian setting and place.Just some thoughts...Do NOT deny an active 'anomaly' pudding. Just don't do it. Especially when they are telekinetic, and on level 17.Oh, and ties. Some people hate them...I'm not sure I'll be able to look at a garbage man from here on in without it having a whole new connotation.Um, dear author, more. And so very asap. While the market is fairly flooded with dystopian zombie novels, this one does stand out as being among the best.Jerod, the protagonist, works at a creepy lab that does experiments on people. He vascillates between being philosophical about the fact that the place is a nightmare and just being in denial. The story is told from his POV in third person present tense, so the reader is always right in the moment with him. And I think the author takes great advantage of this with his portrayal of a character not always at peace with himself.When Gabriel starts work at the factory, Jerod hates him. Then he develops a hate lust. Then he starts to like him. Then he starts to love him.The characters are exceptionally well developed. And really the book is much less predictable than you'd think for the genre, as the author doesn't always take the easy path. The romance is completely non-saccharine and very believable, and romantic for its imperfections.And this book is my new gold standard for explicit sex scenes that forward a plot rather than being gratuitous.I didn't find it a page turner - it's a little cerebral for that and there is a lot of character development. However it's very well paced and there is no point at which it stalls. It just doesn't move fast, and it focuses more on what the events mean for Jerod than what's happening at any given time. Supporting characters are a bit underdeveloped.

I highly recommend this cookbook. I bought it because I was interested in her viewpoint as a human rights activist, but I was delighted to discover the recipes are a fresh take on making healthy food that is gorgeous, tasty and easily made for quick weeknight dinners as well as company best.

Lovely recipes and I love the idea of getting to know a people through their food. We have tried a few recipes since purchasing and like the nuanced difference from other middle eastern food that we eat and cook. The book is beautiful, although that wouldn’t matter if the recipes were not also delicious. Thank you for this collection, and thanks to NPR for drawing my attention to it! We have a vegetarian in the house and there are so many recipes to satisfy both his tastes as well as some meat for me!

The book is a beautiful love letter to Palestine and artfully assembled with photos and stories to weave together the recipes. There is really something for everyone, super tasty vegetarian and vegan recipes and wonderfully spiced meat dishes. Also great to learn about new grains and their historic origins in Palestine. I would recommend this book to anyone and it also would make a wonderful gift! It's filled with alot of love. Thank you, Yasmin! Can't wait for the next one ;)

I thought ingredients might be a little tough to locate but so far everything is familiar to me...just used in new ways! The book is beautiful and so are the stories that come along with it.

As a Palestinian, I was very curious about a book written about Palestinian cuisine by a non Palestinian, however, Zaitoun is an amazing recipe collection/primer to Palestine! The recipes are a combination of authentic Palestinian recipes and recipes the author has created or modified using food combinations and spices that Palestinians use, but with ingredients and techniques that are familiar to the western reader, which is quiet a feat! The photos are gorgeous and Yasmeen does a great job talking to Palestinians of different background, not just about their food, but about their life too. This makes for an amazing read in addition to a wonderful cookbook. A great gift to give people as well.

I picked up this eye-catching book up on a trip to the UK last year, and highly recommend it. When I sat down to flick through it, I ended up reading it in it's entirety and finding lots of recipes I was keen to cook. The essays are beautifully written and I felt a learnt a lot about somewhere I have little knowledge about. The recipes have gone down well and are quite varied so I think both veggies and meat eaters will be happy! I've cooked the roasted rainbow carrots, mussakhan, tomato and okra stew, chickpea and bulgar salad, and the beef and swiss chard stew so far. Really happy this is now out in the US so I can start buying it as gifts for my friends and family.

This is my new favorite cookbook. I want to read it, cook from it, and feed others from it. Traveling alongside Khan as she takes us inside her journey of this region is transporting and delightful. The apricot and rose water rice pudding is becoming a staple in my house. If you're looking for healthy vibrant recipes this is the book for you.

This book was a very good account of a young girl and her family caught on both sides of the border and the struggles they face when they choose to live a better more beautiful life on "the other side". Written in a simple almost spoken style, it is a great way to practice reading in Spanish while also deepening one's knowledge of Mexican life in a small impoverished village called Iguala in the Mexican state of Guerrero. The second part is an account of how the same family emigrates to the US with the help of a coyote and the struggles they face trying to make it in Los Angeles. I thought that the end was cut a bit short and could have included more détails about how the girl (the author) succeeds in her career and personal life.

La autora escribe de una manera clara, natural y honesta. No podía dejar de leer. La historia me conmovió, pues aunque yo no he tenido la necesidad de emigrar al otro lado, la vida de Reyna en México, me recordó mi infancia, que aunque en condiciones diferentes, comparti mos una misma cultura. Es una historia que me hizo llorar y valorar todo lo que he tenido y a la vez poder entender a todos esos migrantes, sus ganas de salir adelante y su busqueda del sueño americano. Una historia verdadera que incluye fotos . Me encantó esta novela. Gracias Reyna por compartir tan clara y honestamente tu experiencia.

Reyna Grande is a great writer. Her story is inspiring to not give up on your dreams. I bought the Spanish version because I want to improve my Spanish. I gained confidence because the story is fascinating, well written, and easy to read.

This autobiography in Spanish is poignant, entertaining and educational. It's a co-incidence that the town of Igual, whee Reyna Grande spent her early years, is the same town where more than 20 students were murdered. You''ll gain an understanding of how poor the small, remote and rural areas of Mexico are, and why residents are so desperate to come to the US.

Read this in a Mexican American literature course and fell in love! I bought my mom the Spanish version for Mother’s Day and she loved it just as much!

La historia verdadera de una familia separada por sus retos financiales. Tambien, una a historia de abuso, de tristeza, de esperanza y finalmente de exito. Si no gana el Premio de Pulitzer, me dara una gran sorpresa. Es una inspiracion para todos.

Have been reading "Distancia" with private Spanish language student. Besides being an excellent linguistic exercise, it is proving to be a touching story that brings to life some of the reality associated with immigration.
