This is a great young adult book that opens discussions on a great number of issues that folks around the world deal with every day. Even the simple information about where is Zimbabwe and relationship to South Africa to what are the issues related to refugees and justice are presented in this novel. Personal survival is a struggle that Deo fights every day, but the reader is also pulled in with the added complexity of Innocent and Deo's commitment to his family, particularly his brother. Innocent's disability adds a component to Deo's life that shines a light on his personal development of family commitment. Quick read with plenty of action, and sadly the violence that too many people must suffer.

I read this book with a ninth grader whom I tutor. We both enjoyed it. As might be expected in a realistic novel about a civil war in Africa, the book contains some graphic violence. It is, however, a well-told and engaging tale.

Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz is internationally regarded as one of the leading scholars and rabbis of this century. Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz is a Talmudic scholar with a real knack for rendering complex Kabbalistic concepts understandable. Although I have really just begun this study, I recommend his work, among with that of others such as Daniel Matt, to anyone with an interest in Kabbalah.The Thirteen Petalled Rose is a relatively short book of just under 200 pages. It's content is divided into ten sections: Worlds, Divine Manifestation, The Soul Man, Holiness, Torah, The Way of Choice, The Human Image, Repentance, The Search for Oneself, and Mitzvot (commandments). While all of this information was wonderful, I found the author's presentation of the four worlds especially compelling.Traditional Kabbalistic sources describe four known spiritual realms called, from higher to lower, Atzilut (emanation), Beriah (creation), Yetzirah (formation) and Assiyah (action). Steinsaltz expands on these traditional divisions quite clearly noting that there are many levels within each of the known spiritual realms as well as other lower realms not thought of as part of the four worlds as listed above.Steinsaltz begins with our world, the world of action, explaining that this observed world is a part of a vast array of worlds, most of which are spiritual. He points out that these worlds do not exist somewhere else but in another dimension and describes a dynamic relationship between worlds with a very real exchange of influence occurring. He stresses that occurrences in our world impact on other worlds and can affect significant change in the spiritual realms. I could not agree more.The author works through each of the spiritual dimensions in highly coherent way explaining concepts and terminology in original and insightful ways. He explains, 'higher' and 'lower' worlds (for example) in terms of 'nearer' and 'farther' or degrees of 'transparency' to the divine light. And tells us that, as one descends through the worlds materiality becomes greater and a sense of independence is felt with an ever increasing intensity. This blocks the divine light and obscures, per the author, the unchanging essence that lurks beneath the personality.I find Steinsaltz's understanding of divinity, angels, humans and the reality we inhabit impressive. I imagine a reality of not four but almost innumerable levels with good deeds and sacred actions radiating upward and outward, expanding and elevating, and ultimately touching the divinity to which we are all connected.I feel that I have come away from this reading with a clearer understanding of the nature of spiritual beings and the very fundamental differences between angels and man. Additionally I found the text validating on a personal level as it is my deep-seated belief that there are many largely imperceptible dimensions beyond our own limited understanding of what is. I am Catholic but I will tell you now that this work is a masterpiece in new wave thinking. There are areas that just blow your mind and stretch your thinking to a new level. The Rabbi has surely written an inspired work that offers good meat for those hungry for spiritual food.My own philosophy allows me to treat this work with an open mind, and an open mind brings fresh air!

I became interested in this book after reading "On the Road with Rabbi Steinsalz". That book was a compilation of conversations the author had with the rabbi.. easily accessible ideas, philosophies and entertaining, too. The Thirteen Petalled Rose is an insightful book, a discourse on the deep meaning of spiritual concepts esp. in regards to the Kabala, Torah, and such. About the Author

Robert Anthony Salvatore, who writes under the name R. A. Salvatore, is an American author best known for The DemonWars Saga, his Forgotten Realms novels, for which he created the popular character Drizzt Do'Urden, and Vector Prime, the first novel in the Star Wars: The New Jedi Orderseries. He has sold more than 15 million copies of his books in the United States alone and twenty-two of his titles have been New York Times best-sellers. Robert Salvatore was born in Leominster, Massachusetts, the youngest of a family of seven. During his time at Fitchburg State College, he became interested in fantasy after reading J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, given to him as a Christmas gift. He developed an interest in fantasy and other literature, promptly changing his major from computer science to journalism. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications/Media from Fitchburg. He earned this degree in 1981 and later a Bachelor of Arts in English. I wanted to rate this lower but not because it was bad but because they did t finish it!!! Only two volumes they need a three!!!! It was so good!!!

Love the drizzt series! Finally seeing it with pictures is amazing and puts it into perspective. The second book within the trilogy is crudely drawn compared to the first and third, but I still enjoyed it.

I bought this by accident looking to buy my son the actual novels. At first I was going to return the item, but decided to read the book. This is actually a fantastic graphic novel that really puts Drizzt in a visual format I was not expecting. I recommend that fans check this Omnibus out.

Love Salvatore and always will. Its nice to see the stories drawn into a well illustrated adventure

Artistically drawn version of the Legend of Drizzt can't wait for the rest of the series to be done this way. Hopefully Salvatore pushes the story to the Big screen soon 3 hours or more per book so it's done right would be perfect.

While certainly not nearly as detailed or good as the actual novels, this is a great accompaniment to them. It's nice to be able to them. I liked seeing the words 'come to life' in graphic form.

2nd Book! YAY!!! Now I need the 3rd one...sigh
