Really liked this book, kinda wish I had read it before seeing the movie. But I will definitely have to watch the movie again.

I'm a grandmother and watching the movie didn't appeal to me because I don’t like violence until two male friends and my son insisted I had to see it. I was completely drawn in, especially when the real relationship between the protagonist and Tyler was revealed. To me, it was more of a psychological story. The musings about consumerism, the downward spiral of the main character, the creation of something that spins out of control, and the followers willing to do anything to be part of something were fascinating. His complicated relationship with the only female character who confounds, irritates and draws him is woven into a brilliant story. So I had to read the book. It’s a little different and the ending is different. But I was as drawn in to the book as the film. I also enjoyed the Afterword, which gave some background to the creation and aftermath of this book. Great writing and a compelling plot.

It was nearly impossible for a movie or television show to upstage the book. With Chuck Paluhniak’s “Fight Club,” it was definitely a close battle.As usual, though, the original product won. Nothing against the movie, which is one of my favorites, but there is no way to inject the rawness of Mr. Paluhniuk’s prose into the entire film.The writing contains the power of this book, a first-person tale of one man’s battle with the futility of a life that is good, just not good enough. The author brings us into the story just as the main character begins his fall into the rabbit hole, dragging the reader along. It is interesting that the main character never uses his name, though as a plot device this reinforces the characterization.For those wondering if the book can pull off an ending that can compete with the movie, I can attest the final chapter is very satisfying and is one more reason to pick up the print version. Five well-deserved stars.

Let's talk about Fight Club. I was borderline unhealthily obsessed with the movie version of Fight Club when I first saw it at 16. In many ways, the book is better. Fight Club deals with self-loathing, repressed impulses, and the hypocritical and meaning-starved existence many of us in the developed world feel we live in a manner which never fails to be fun, engaging, and artistic. In addition to the message, as I've gotten older and read more novels I've come to appreciate the style in which Fight Club is written more and more.PS if this book ends up resonating with your latent aggressive impulses, try boxing, kickboxing or Jiu Jitsu. (But please don't blow stuff up)

It is true, the book is always better than the movie. Watching this movie in 1999 in New York City Theaters and I remember how much influence on my way of thinking, to challenge the hamster wheel, just as I was starting college.Of course the book is way cooler after you watched the movie, as you have Brad Pitt in your head and the other amazing characters from the movie - honestly I am not sure how much I would have enjoyed the book if I didn’t already have the amazing visual experience from watching the video.Yet by reading the book, you get so much more depth and feeling. Those quick 5 second clips in the movie now are written out in pages and you get the more granular feel of what is happening in Tyler and the character’s head (whose name we never know!).The ending is different in the movie and the book - and I saw that in the review when deciding to invest in reading the book or not - and that alone is worth going through it.What was surprising was how close the book and the movie are! Some of the exact lines are right from the book, and for the most part it is fairly straight along the the same storyline.As Fight Club is one of my favorite movies of all time, I of course will enjoy the book and it gives a new angle and dimension - I should probably watch the movie (yes again) to more fully compare the book and movie.

Honestly, the ending was akin to that of a deadpool comic. A 4th wall break and then the whole twist of Tyler being a personification, or a literal being of chaos and malevolence, is fairly absurd and takes away from the fairly realistic first book. Also, the redux ending, how come it is insane that a rag tag group of people blew up a building? I mean, Tinothy McVeigh blew up a federal building in OKC, if I recall correctly, in '93. So, a lone bomber blew up a building but a cult leader could not? But, I digress. I can't complain about Tyler because it is Tyler and even if he is a cold Sociopath, he is very cathartic of you will. Anyway, it was a fairly fun read, just when you go back over it again, its flaws start to show more and more.

I was expecting a chunk of money diaries to be read at my leisure. Instead I have to hunt for the money diaries in between a bunch of financial information. I wanted to just read a book of money diaries and have the financial stuff after or in a chunk. This book is not how it was described.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. I do love money diaries, and have read almost all of the ones that have been published, but I was expecting the money advice portions of the book to be tired information that I had heard a million times over. I was very very pleasantly surprised by how much I didn't know (HMO vs PPO section was something I can admit I didn't understand until now) and how informative and relatable the information came across.This is one of my favorite self-help/financial advice books I have ever read. I have already recommended this book to all of my friends.

I purchased this on Kindle and read in less than a week. Devouring it at every opportunity.I fit the target demographic of the book, millennial woman, regular Money Diaries reader, young professional etc, and I have a lot of questions about finances that I have been afraid to ask. Lindsey Stanberry tackles these topics with eloquence and ease, framing the information through a handful of money diaries & interviews, personal anecdotes from herself and other young women, and financial experts. I learned SO much through reading the book and the challenges helped me think about my personal finances without guilt or shame. This is not just a book of money diaries, which honestly, why would you spend $10-15 on?! They're online for free!The book also tried really hard to not fall into the "stop buying lattes and avocado toast" trap, which I enjoyed; it was written by a millennial for millennials and did not seem dry or preachy. At the end of the day, Lindsey looks at finances in a balanced and human way that helped me see how I can enjoy my life and be a boss. She never built a sense of guilt into the book, emphasizing that debt is not a personal failure, and giving the readers a lot of ways to see themselves as financial champions.I will say, sometimes Lindsey's personal advice come off as a little high-horse, given how much privilege she has, which she acknowledged. This book will continue to be a resource on my "shelf" & I would recommend it to any young woman who wants to take charge of her finances.

I devoured this book. It arrived on Friday and I was finished by Sunday.The book is full of practical advice about saving, wealth-building, and important conversations to have with partners and family. It's not just that, however. It also provides insight into people's lives -- even down to their (really healthy!) meals. It's also helped me measure myself against my peers and also gives me a push to do better.Millennial definitely should read this!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It far exceeded my expectations by being really useful, giving solid personal finance advice, and action steps including specific how to's. It also helped me to finally understand financial terms that have been going over my head. I also purchased two of these books for family members and will order a couple more as gifts.I loved reading the revealing Money Diaries and loved that they included follow ups.

I LOVED this book, I admit I am doing the Dave Ramsey approach with my husband and he is the main “budget planner” in our relationship, but this book has allowed me to understand and ask questions without feeling overwhelmed by jargon. Lindsey has captured the spirit of the Money Diaries and given solid advice along the way!

I'm not the intended audience for this book, given that I'm male and 61 yro. But I like reading about personal finance because it helps me stay conscious about my personal budgeting.I like the idea of money diaries and have completed two week-long dairies in my digital journal.The other information in the book was not new to me, but it's good to read another viewpoint about investments, which I'm still struggling with. This book has some good financial advice, but I'm surprised it doesn't provide readers about how to keep an actual financial budget. There was no mention of Mint, YouNeedaBudget, or the Dave Ramsey method. There should of been at least a short chapter about zero budgeting. Nevertheless, it's a useful book. I recommend everyone, young and old, regularly read about personal finance, and most definitely have a $2000 emergency fund in savings.

The money diaries were good but sparse and the ongoing gimmick on save this much now doesn't work with how people read books. If I would have bought the physical copy I would have returned it.

Even though I looked at the specs I was still a little surprised at how small this was. While it looks like it will be a good workbook for my son one day, I do not think this book works for a six-year-old. Parts of it more like it’s for a nine-year-old which is the end of the range. Some of the early robot turn-based algorithms are OK but then it will use “word-processor” as an example to explain what something is, without explaining it as if a six-year-old knows what the word processor is well enough for that to be an explanation and starts getting into floating point calculations when the whole book is not very long which seems unnecessary detail for a six yr old.

This is a really nice intro to coding. It won’t get your kid coding yet as it mostly explains how computers work, but it will be a good springboard to other intro to coding lessons. My daughter is 6. She is able to really read well, and the book was a great level for her. She was able to work through most of it herself and she had a lot of fun doing it. The book is really interactive.

Great book to get the kids started, worked with my daughter (8) and she wanted to rush ahead but it's good that the first few problems are on paper rather than the computer.

This book skips a few steps with regards to setting up Python - but if you can fill in the holes it's a fun book for your kids to learn programming.

As a basic introduction to coding using a Scratch or Scratch like environment this book has been good for my kids. Some of them found it boring - one of the down sides of having a programming nerd for a Dad - they were already past some of the basics - but for others it has been a good 'primer' to work through with my kids.

I first read the Tao Te Ching in college. Somewhere along the line I lost that copy so I decided to pick up this one (especially since it had such high reviews). This copy seemed much different than the one I read years back. And I am not just talking about the author's choice to use female pronouns as well as male pronouns in his version (incidentally - how close can one get to awareness of Tao if one allows oneself to get hung up on seeing "He" rather than "She" in the teachings?).In one portion of this "tao de ching: A New English Version" ("Version" is the key word) the author chooses to translate "When the Tao is absent in a country,/ war horses are bred on the borders" to "When a country goes counter to the Tao, Warheads are stockpiled outside the cities". This author has written his "modernized" version of the Tao Te Ching and he claims to have been open in this fact, supposedly by him using the terms "A New English Version". When one reads further one in the notes you see the author admitting he does not even know Chinese (so his interpretation of the Tao is from other translations - and how he thinks the lines should read for poetics sake, or P.C. sake, etc).At first I thought I would not write a review on this book. But when seeing the author admit to what I had suspected it made me feel like I really got ripped off. If you are looking for a translation of the Tao Te Ching do not get this author's book. The author respects the Tao but this is not the real deal. I will be purposefully losing this book and looking for a better translation.

I had no idea what to expect of this book when It arrived. I turned it over in my hands and it was clearly very short in length, so I decided to just read a few pages while I finished my morning coffee.One and a half hours later I had finished the book entirely, along with my coffee, and I immediately knew upon completion that I would read this book many, many more times in my life.It was a highly profound, dare I say life changing read that dramatically impacted my perspective towards my own happiness and how I interact with others. Written as a collection of very short, almost poem-like chapters, often each occupying less than a single page, this book is a masterfully crafted guide to find real happiness and fulfillment in your life. It is a tome that empowers you, humbles you, and leads you around the pitfalls that so many humans fall into throughout their lives.It is not a modern self help book with life-hacks, habit forming tips, or other such articulations, but rather a fundamental, deep, and moving look at what makes up a fulfilling life.If you are someone who has discovered mindfulness, explores meditation, or ponders philosophy, then this book is, without question, a must-read.And if you are more of a go-getter. This book is very confusing to read because of the way its been printed. There's no uniformity; Instead of having one verse per page and then a commentary section, there's several verses on one page with different types and sizes of font throughout so visually it looks very cluttered and crammed together and it's not enjoyable to read. It looks like a cheap, self-publishing project gone wrong. It's such an important text, it's disappointing that they didn't take more care to make it more readable.
