Before I bought and read , I mentally pictured author Thomas Herold as a whistle blower warning the public of tricks being played on the people by governments and banks. (About this I was right, up to a point). I wanted to read what he had to say on his subject. As an aside, I had never heard of Mr. Herold before I came upon this book during a search for something to read.Early in the book the author calls attention to what he sees as a great inequity - one percent of the population controls fifty percent of all the wealth. He believes that the U.S. dollar is being destroyed and that the U.S. Federal Reserve (our central bank) is hiding that fact. (pg. 14). Mr. Herold states that it is his intent to show that our monetary system must be changed into one that creates wealth for everyone and not just the top one percent. (pg. 16).Next he writes a short history of money, debt and inflation that goes right on up to the credit card. Then he goes into HIS specifics of the "Destructive Results of the Current Monetary System." (pgs. 50-57). Included among them are moral decline, health decline and spiritual decline. The author also calls attention to "The Magic of Interest" and its benefits (?) to our banking system and its owners/investors. This reviewer found much interest in the author's money figures of the costs to the taxpayer of the 2008-2009 bank bailout. I suspect that other readers will too.Beginning with Chapter II Mr. Herold goes into considerable detail setting out his 21 methods by which the banking system and certain human failings "legally steal your money." He devotes just under 100 pages to this list. I found them to be informative and interesting. He caps it all off with his summary of our current monetary system, which summary can be disagreed with by reasonable persons.Next comes Chapter IV which encompasses Money and Wealth, especially wealth and it various forms. Readers might note that the author appears to have skipped Chapter III. However it soon becomes apparent that the book has two Chapter IVs. The 2nd Chap. IV goes into "Metaphysics" which includes discussions of such as "Separation vs. Oneness" and "From Fear to Love." All I can say about that is, some will find value in it and others won't. I admit that it didn't mean a lot to this reviewer.The last Chapter, (V), speaks of the future, including topics like "Universal Basic Income," and technology including crypto-currencies and bitcoins.On pgs. 261-263 is the author's "Afterword." It contains some of his thoughts pertaining to money, connectedness, and societal unfairness.My Own Perceptions. This is not at all a bad book. Readers are likely to find value in it, but might disagree on which parts are valuable. I believe that Mr. Herold is sincere in his beliefs. HOWEVER, what will cause some readers to deny that this could ever be viewed as a serious work are: The errors in spelling and punctuation. There are places where the author uses "cooperation" when I suspect that he might mean "corporation." And as already mentioned there are errors in the numbering of chapters. I am sorry that better editing and advice seem not to have been available to the author. In my opinion this could have been a better book with more attention to detail and content. (Of course the same could be said about many books that have been published).

In this book, The Money Deception, the author, Mr. Thomas Herold, raises the red flag ; He is alarmed by what is going on in our financial system which he thinks is on the verge of collapsing. Although the focus is mostly on the US the repercussions are worldwide; after all, the USA is now the dominant economic force affecting the entire world .The author is perhaps justified in declaring this warning, The financial meltdown of 2008 is still fresh in our minds, and to the author it was only the tip of the iceberg. But what other indicators are there to justify his fears? The US huge debt is a major worry especially when we discover that the Government pays in excess of $400 billion in interest on the debt - every year !! It is clear that the Government cannot go on paying such astounding amounts indefinitely. In the wake of the 2008 crisis, to save itself from bankruptcy, the US paid leading banks in excess of $16 trillion - the biggest bailout ever! This itself had a huge impact on the overall debt burden.This author (who has written ten books on finance) believes there is something desperately wrong with the current financial system. Inequality, for instance, is now greater than ever before; 82% of the wealth generated last year went to the richest 1% of the global population !! One percent of the population now controls 50% of all wealth. To add insult to injury, 23% of people over 65 live in poverty, and around 80% of those who reached retirement age say they cannot afford to retire. This is not only shocking but shameful and outright disturbing. The economic system is dangerously close to collapsing and the general public is hardly aware of it.While the author bemoans this current US system and how it is manipulated by government and banks to the disadvantage of the average citizen, he struggles to suggest better solutions for the future. The Bitcoin system, which does not require a central bank or government control, is given serious consideration. The Universal Basic Income (UBI) where a fixed salary is given to every citizen to reduce poverty and increase equality is suggested but has recently been tested in Switzerland and rejected. Other systems were also considered but seemed too far fetched for practical applications . It seems obvious that changing the current financial protocols will be a major undertaking which will take years of planning, testing and trials.(Note: Sadly, this book is riddled with spelling as well as grammatical mistakes which can be distracting).Fuad R Qubein.Apr. 2018

We always speculate & hear stories but to see it visually broken down into valid points & arguments was very eye opening.Prior to reading this book I had just had a conversation with a colleague about how we will never be millionaires working a 9-5 and we have to plan for retirement right nowwhen we still have 30 or so years. What about what we need right now at the moment?I also got more than I expected when the author touched on our outdated educational system that does little to prepare graduates for financial freedom. In fact you actually start off in debt from college. Crazy. It’s all one big ponzu scheme.There were some grammatical errors which should be revised and reprinted as I believe this is an excellent book.

About the Author

Heidi M. Thomas grew up on a working ranch in eastern Montana, riding and gathering cattle for branding and shipping. She had parents who taught her a love of books and a grandmother who rode bucking stock in rodeos. She followed her dream of writing with a journalism degree from the University of Montana and then wrote for the Daily Missoulian for several years and did freelance work over a period of 15 years for a number of magazines, including Montana Magazine, Front Sight Magazine, and the Business Monthly. Her first novel, Cowgirl Dreams, won an EPIC Award and the USA Book News Best Book Finalist award. She is a member of Women Writing the West, Pacific Northwest Writers Association, Skagit Valley Writers League, Skagit Women in Business, and the Northwest Independent Editors Guild.

Plenty of great, famous and durable cowgirls came from Montana, as did ranch raised Heidi Thomas herself. Rodeo fans and history buffs will like this info packed volume. Heidi Thomas takes her readers back in time to the beginning of cowgirl involvement in the man dominated sport of Rodeo. For a few short decades, up until the beginning of the Great Depression, cowgirls participated in the sport on a more or less equal footing with their male counterparts. They had slightly different rules when riding rough stock but they had a solid presence in the sport. A combination of reduced gate money due to the depression and two tragic deaths in the arena led to the side lining of traditional bronc riding and the like. Two of the greatest cowgirls of all time lost their lives while doing the thing they loved most-riding a thousand pounds of muscle and fury to the roar of the crowd. When one of the greatest of them all met her Waterloo a fan said "I could hear that girl's head hit the ground, right up there in the bleachers." Bonnie McCarroll fought for a week before her injuries overcame her. Thomas introduces us to the greats in the sport over a century of time. We meet the four Greenough girls, four sisters that performed in hundreds of rodeos. Bonnie McCarroll had a grand career before her untimely death. More recently Jane Burnett led a new generation of cowgirls into the 21st Century. Listen to the way Thomas strings her words---"A breeze swirled mini dust devils as horses whinnied, calves bawled, and bulls kicked the slats in the pens." Thomas puts you right there in the arena with the cowgirls. She also puts in plenty of quotes from the cowgirls themselves. "It's no disgrace to fail. The only disgrace is in not trying." Said cowgirl Jane Burnett, long after suffering many broken bones. Margie Greennough on cowboys..."They were gentlemen. If anyone was cussing or talking dirty, they'd tell'um to hush. And if they didn't, they'd punch 'em." The cowgirls all had grit, that unique Western term that means that the cowgirls 'had no quit in 'em.' We admire the cowgirls for their athletic skill. We hold them in our hearts for the force of will inside a 120 pound girl that puts her on the back of a 2,000 lb. bull, in the face of danger and in the very teeth of an often hostile rodeo industry. The cowgirls in this book are the very best of Americans, people who follow their own path and... let ....nothing...at...all...stop them. Bronc busters, barrel riders, trick riders or racers the cowgirls made a mark on the rodeo industry. They suffered broken bones, crooked promoters and poverty to participate in the sport they love. They still do. In the current century two cowgirls regularly participate alongside the cowboys in the saddle bronc and bull riding events. Even so, many people thought of rodeo cowgirls as “loose women.”Cowgirl Up! is about these women of rodeo, many of whom started their careers as young as fourteen, competing against and often earning higher points than seasoned cowboys.The 1920s were rodeo heydays for cowgirls, producing more champion female riders than any time since. These girls knew hardships, but persisted in their rodeo dreams.Soon organized circuits formed and performers traveled from rodeo to rodeo, paying their own travel expenses and fees, often sleeping in tents. This was a bit of a different type of book for me. I liked the history and how the cowgirls were able to do the same events as men but only after time and much effort on their parts. To "Cowgirl up" means to not whine, cry, complain, but rather to be tough and handle whatever comes your way.It was interesting how there were so many injuries, yet they recovered only to get back in the saddle. This was a well researched book on this topic.The stories that were written about were of cowgirls from Montana, their shows and competitions. It was a very interesting historical book.

The best kind of history lesson; Informative and entertaining. Thomas does a great job of showing the lifestyles of these women in a very male dominated world, and how through hard work and determination they gained the respect of many people not only in the U.S., but throughout the world. You can't help but be impressed with the toughness of these women, who competed even with broken bones and other injuries. An eye-opening look at the world of rodeo, and the accomplishments of these women.

I've read all three of Ms. Thomas's cowgirl series and thoroughly enjoyed them. I don't read too many non-fiction books but thought I'd give this one a try since I enjoyed her fiction. I wasn't disappointed. Not only did I learn something, but the true tales of fearless women of the west kept me turning the pages.

Heidi Thomas skillfully revealed a piece of history in Cowgirl Up that I had never imagined existed. The stories and photos told the story of tough and talented women fighting for their opportunity to compete beside men in a very dangerous sport. Harline (History/Brigham Young Univ.) has amassed rare evidence from a convent in the Spanish Netherlands to show that, during the Catholic Counter Reformation, religious life was ``shaped by debate...rather than established forever by arbitrary proclamations from on high.'' Toward this end, he offers the correspondence of (and about) the convent's controversial Sister Margaret Smulders, whom he calls ``one of the most prolific letter- writers in early modern monastic history.'' Margaret earns the hatred of her Mother Superior and becomes an outcast among her sisters after her allegations of sexual harassment against the well-liked convent confessor result in his dismissal. She is charged with harboring demonic spirits and all manner of evils. She is then banished--remaining defenseless until the archbishop and another powerful male religious figure become her advocates. But after exorcisms and an apparent ``recovery,'' Margaret returns only to be excluded from the main life of the convent. Finally, she becomes a full-time chronicler of convent ills. Her vast correspondence with the powerful clergy--written mainly in anticipation of their periodic corrective ``visitations''--form the basis of Harline's narrative. But Margaret's litany of complaints varies little. What are interesting points the first time around- -that too many nuns pursue temporal pleasures or fraternize with outsiders through the convent gates--wear thin by the fourth official visit. Wonderful and a breath of fresh air. H.B. Charles Jr. did a wonderful job describing the entire aspect of preaching. He has the right perspective of putting Christ first and exalting Him not ourselves. This is a great, practical book about preaching. A friend of mine recommended this book to read for a small group that we are in together. Each of us would take turns reading a different section weekly and share what we have learned. After a while I decided that I must get this book for myself. God has used this book to help each of us grow as ministers and as preachers.

I'm a veteran preacher and most preaching books are for the new pastor. This book speaks both to the novice and the experienced. With a humble voice, H.B., hits passionately on key topics for the preacher. He also has a chapter for the associate pastor that is worth the price of the book! I bought several to use with my associate pastors to develop their preaching.

On Preaching is one of the better books on preaching I have read in recent years. Pastor Charles provides sage insight and pointed practicality on preaching. Not only did the practical approach to preaching benefit me, also the ease of reading allowed full concepts to be grasped.
