I really enjoyed reading this book I didn't want to put it down it was never boring and I was amazed how Mr. Bumpy Johnson rose from an unknown street thug to the renowned Godfather of Harlem. There are so many that don't believe who Bumpy Johnson was, but I know family members (an great aunt who is still alive at 98) that migrated to Harlem from Georgia in the 30's and 40's that knew him in passing and what he was, they whispered about him with awe. Frank Lucas story of his life is a fairy tale even the detective that arrested him said he was a liar and a snitch.Bumpy Johnson was no snitch and nobody's flunky or henchman. Bumpy Johnson was who he was......a Gangster, he made no excuses for that but he did it his way. I wished he could have used that same talent and energy for a more respectable profession but he used what was given to him at the time, and of all the old gangsters of his time he was the last man standing. I would highly recommend this book if you are interested in the Real black gangsters of Harlem. Frank Lucas ain't it.

I purchased the Kindel edition of this book. Best 5.99 I ever spent. I really wish their was a tip jar because I owe someone some more money.More than just a story about the notorious Harlem Godfather Bumpy Johnson, this book puts you square in the middle of the action during the Harlem Renaissance. Mayme Johnson was only married to Bumpy Johnson for three years, but she lives several lifetimes in those three years. She knew or knew of EVERYBODY. From Sarah Vaughn to Billi Holiday to all the hipster party goers, hustlers and cops.Reading this book gives me more than an inside look at Bumpy Johnson's life, it gives me an inside look into life in Harlem.Harlem, at that time, had to be the sexiest place the world and in this book, the story of Harlem is told with just as much care as the story about Bumpy Johnson.

This book tells the story of the original "American Gangster" Ellsworth 'Bumpy' Johnson as told by his wife Ms. Mayme Johnson. As with any bio book about a infamous person written by a loving spouse you will see a certain amount of bias, especially when it comes to violence but Ms. Mayme did a fine job of telling about the good and the bad of the legendary Bumpy Johnson.After first seeing Bumpy's story in the movies 'Hoodlum', 'The Cotton Club' and a snippet in 'American Gangster', I wanted to read more about this man. In my opinion none of the movies did him justice but Hoodlum at least had some of the facts straight. This book gives the most complete story we will ever have. Of course Ms. Mayme was not there to witness acts of violence and must rely on what what was told to her by Bumpy or his associates regarding these acts. I enjoyed learning about his family history but especially liked the description of the co-author's encounter with the Queen, Madame St. Claire. It was good to read another example of the exaerations told by fellow legendary gangster, Frank Lucas. I mean isn't he enough of a bad-a** without having to make up things? Another excellent book on this topic is 'Sargent Smack', the story of the real Ike Attkinson who also exposes the many delusions in the mind of Frank Lucas.I read the Kindle edition of this book after waiting almost six months for the price to go down and its well worth the current price. I had been interested in reading about "Bumpy" from the days of "Shaft" and "Hoodlum". Just who was this guy that instilled fear into the hearts of "BIG" "BAD" Mafia hoods like Dutch Shultz and demanded respect from Luciano? The way other gangster books and movies told the story: The game began and ended with Italians. Everybody knows Capone, Luciano, Gambino etc.... But who was Bumpy Johnson? Mayme told the story the way it was!! And introduced many more characters of the underworld that no one had ever heard about.....Unless you were there in the game!And this is what I liked about the book: IT WAS FRESH!!! New information that I had not read before in The Godfather, Goodfellas and other Mob books (And God knows i've read 'em all!).I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who is interested in Bumpy and the Harlem that has been misrepresented in the media. My only complaint is that it wasn't long enough. Mayme made me feel like I knew her and I could listen to her forever!!!! Thank you for telling the real story!

Where do I begin?! Let me just say this book is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I wanted to read or learn about the life and times of a gangsta from a "black point of view" back in the days. This book is just that. Even though it is supposed to have been told from his wife's point of view, it is still as gritty as can possibly be. The book was a little of 200 pages and I think I finished it in 2-3 days during the work week. The book had a few grammar errors but Im a trucker not an editor. That was not an issue for me. lol The STORY, whether true or not, was great!!! What else do you want when you open a book if not a GOOD STORY?????? The main character and the story is in Harlem NY. I suspect people from New York would enjoy it even more.

A fascinating read. You can hear the voice of the narrator. Authentic story telling about an engaging individual--warts and all.

Honestly, I could not put the book down! With all the films such as Hoodlum and American Gangster, which gave the Hollywood version of a notable man. I will say this: It does make you reexamine the Frank Lucas claims that he was "Bumpy's right-hand man", since the widow of Bumpy dismisses those claims and brings to light other personalities that displayed Frank Lucas' skill to spin a story using someone else's life story. Miss Mayme strips away all of the nonsense history has placed on her husband, and gives us an honest actually being there story. If you like gangster stories, add this to your shelf- this isn't fake fiction, this is a real story, a real person's real life.

It was a good read - at times, a bit strange, but also really interesting - i had a hard time putting the book down. It gave me a better understanding behind the knights of the round table, and while what has become legend and explained in symbol can still be found today, the way the stories are told are somewhat too symbolic/obscure to be truly well understood, and may also have been tempered/altered with. A good read nonetheless, and what I was interested at the time I read this book, over 10 years ago.

This is a heavily Christianized version of the famous Grail legend. I say that because the Quest of the Holy Grail was written about by many throughout the ages - and this version is probably the most distant from the Celtic pagan tradition. The commentary and notes are excellent - and Pauline Matarasso's insight into the theology and symbolism of the work isextremely entertaining and enlightening. Her theory that the book may have been written by a Cistercian monk based on clues in the text is also interesting given the number of scriptural references and mystical overtones. One of the best of its kind.

This book is special for me.Now I feel like Galahad, Perceval and Bors would always stay in my heart.Being part of a busy everyday city life this book carries you away from it, somewhere very far away, and somewhere within you.The way heroes of this book act while facing their trials is very very inspiring and is presented in such a way that you question yourself: "How can it be otherwise?"For those who are interested to understand the Bible on a deeper level, it does explain some of the Christian symbols and parables.Fantastic book, I would give more than 5 stars, but unfortunately that's not an option.

This is a classic story of the Knights of the Round Table and the quest for the Holy Grail. It has religous overtones and the story is well wrtten. I would reccomend this book.

This wonderful work--a medieval religious guide hidden as an Arthurian romance--hits all the right buttons: morality stories, lessons on good triumphing against great odds, and a firm religiosity focusing on faith and works (yes, it would be considered Catholic nowadays, but that was the only game in town in the 13th c.). The moral that's stuck with me is that how Lancelot was a good knight, but could have been so much better had he stuck to his ideals.I've read this to 7-9 y.o.'s in a summer camp and they loved it. I've assigned it to undergrads and they universally thought it was a wonderful read. If you have a teen or pre-teen who is into Harry Potter, throw this at him/her, along with Cretien de Troyes.One more thing--maybe a quibble, but some reviewers have called this a novel. It's not. The novel did not come into existence as a separate literary form until much later. The big difference is that the romance is based on the oral and literary traditions of previous centuries that extend back hundreds of years, while the novel was something new--new characters, new scenarios, new settings. Also, while "fictional" to us, Arthurian material wasn't necessary so at the time works like the Quest were written. Contemporaries believed that maybe parts were embellished, but the figures were real.

Our 13 month old loves this book:* The translation is good. The book is about a series movements from head to toe, each paired with an animal. The first movement is the head, side to side, paired with a penguin. That's 2 nouns and a verb* Reading out loud and showing the baby the movement is fun. She is beginning to imitate the movements. She enjoys books that incorporate movement or sound-making* Large size, easy to read. We love large size books since they are easier to read and to be delighted by the illustrations. The first time, it was a bit difficult to set up flat on a book stand, but now we stand in front of it to read it and move to the book's instructions* Unfortunately, it is not our preferred format (lap-sized boardbook), this version is PAPERBACK. So we are careful. Since the baby loves this book so much, it has a few creases

Seriously, I love him.This book helps teach body parts and animals. Do the actions as you read! My 2y/o thinks I'm crazy, and he mostly only raises his shoulders like the buffalo, but he thinks it's hilarious and makes me read the book a lot.We also have the book in English, and I was very happy to find the book in both languages. My son has both Spanish and American family, and is being raised bilingual. I love that I have books like these that I can read in English and then in Spanish to help me understand the Spanish.

Great for beginning Spanish readers. My son just started in an immersion program and this has been great for him to start helping read along in.

my son loves this book. he loves doing all the things the animals do. however, it is a very big book and it's not a board book. so the pages are very difficult for my toddler to turn. plus we had to actually keep the book away from him for awhile because he wants to tear the pages. only recently he learned to not tear the pages in books, but i still have to supervise him with this book because he can rip the pages accidentally since it's so big and awkward for him to manage. i wish i would have noticed it wasn't a board book when i bought it. that said, my son does love love love having this book read to him.

Kids will love this book, just be prepared as the reader that you will not be able to just sit on the couch and read this book, you will have to get moving! I really like the simplicity of this book. It allows me to read simple Spanish, simple concepts to my three year old who has just recently started trying to read it herself. Funny, we are a multi lingual household but are severely lacking in Spanish! This book makes us feel like we can really learn and practice (as a supplement to other ways).

I liked this. It was not as big as I would have liked, or expected but it was a nice sticker book. Bought it for a six year old and he loved it

I must have overlooked the amount of pages in this book. I foolishly assumed this was a sticker book like the rest of them, about 1/2" thick. No. It's got two pages of stickers. That's it. I would never have paid $6 for that. Ah well. Live and learn. Hopefully others will be able to learn from my mistake.

Sticker goodness in officially licensed merchandise from Star Wars- you gotta love it. Especially appreciate the part where if you are very careful you can peel off the sticker and put it on a smidge closer to where you intended for it to land. Bright colors in the stickers themselves, and a nice variety of representations of the basics of the series.The only improvement would be: more stickers (its just a bit short, but I knew that going in,) and a scene where you could pick and choose what sticker goes where. This booklet has a (single) place for everything, and something more open ended wold have been better. Still, it was a lot of fun and we enjoyed putting on the stickers of our long loved characters.

I understand that this was my bad for not reading the description better, but I bought this because it was on sale for $6 or something like that. I actually ordered two. My boys have had sticker books like this before and loved them, however the ones they've gotten before are like 50 pages. This one contained like 3 pages of stickers. I feel like I could buy something like this at the dollar store. I was very disappointed.

I finally have a way to help teach my niece and nephew all the characters and ships, etc! I don't always remember when we read the Little Golden Books, this is a nice reference.

Stickers are a little hard to get out of the books. Some are in very close to the binding and with the angles of the stickers, it's easy to tear them. Probably best to go to the store and check out in person since this isn't the only case where they've been like this.

Got this for my g/f's 5 year old nephew. He loves star wars and he loves stickers. We had fun peeling the stickers off and putting them where they belonged but it seemed pretty cheap. Quite a few of them were not perforated properly which led to them tearing. He's 5 so he really didn't care but for the cost you'd expect it to be a bit better done. Guess you're more paying for the brand and less for the quality.

Gift for grandson who loves stickers and Star Wars. He loved the book!

These sticker books are the best! They are great for long car rides, restaurants, quiet time, etc. There are tons of stickers, blank scenes, and lots of information about the characters. I highly recommend as a gift or for travel!

Great book to have in your textbook library! It breaks things down and gives great background information on many scenarios and walks you through the exercises. Some information that was given was not necessary for me to know, but very little. I learned a lot of new things. I can now use it with great proficiency. It is helping to keep my life in order and I am now able to show my family how to use it more efficiently so, we are able to know each other's schedule. My youngest (11 year old) has really stared to getting into it. It is helping him to build his skills in planning, and staying on time. This also helps him structure his studying, organize and be aware of how long it takes him to work on assignments. I am enjoying using it with all of my other 2007 software. I didn't pay much attention to this part of the software before, but now, I use it every day!

This book is valuable to the beginnner and the expert developer. If you're a beginner, it presents ACCESS 2007 in a step-by-step manner so that you can quickly be using the software. If you've used previous versions of ACCESS, this book identifies the differences (some are improvements, some are still waiting to be "characterized" in my mind < grin >) between the previous versions and this new version; as a developer, this was very useful for me to quickly learn of what's new and how it's new.Lots of sample databases...and code...and tips/tricks... and a PDF version of the book with extra chapters on the accompanying CD.The style is similar to those in John's previous books, so you'll like this one if you've read the earlier ones. Definitely worth the money...the first time you need to learn "how do I do this?", it'll pay for itself in the time it would take you to learn "by trial and error".

I studied AccessDatabase using SQL in college years ago. I needed to create a new database for a long-term project and bought this book to brush up on a few things. It's VERY thorough and covers theory as well as practical application. There is a lot of information that can be helpful to both the novice and a more experienced Access user but overall I think this book would be quite overwhelming for the novice user. The step-by-step sections are not formatted well and are difficult to follow - especially for a nivoce. OVerall this book is very informative. For someone who wants to get into heavy (regular) database creation this may be a good choice. For the novice or someone who wants to create a database fairly quickly but still learn the functionality of a relational database I think that Access 2007: The Missing Manual would be a better choice. This book is just too deep and quite overwhelming. You really have to read through an entire chapter to gain understanding and STILL refer back to previous chapters in the process.

I love all of the Inside Out Reference Manuals and this one is just has helpful to me in my collection. It gives great information especially when learning how to use the VBA. Of course, you can't have just one reference guide but, this one will be my go to first. It was also nice to spend just a few dollars on and get a great looking copy free of highlighting as well. This manual does assume that you have prior knowledge of Access but, don't let that stop you from obtaining this manual if you don't use it often. You also find many ways to use it outside of an office situation for home and for study.

I bought this book prior to building my last computer and installed Windows 7 Home Premium and Microsoft Office 2007. Most of the information contained in this book can be found online but it's nice to have it all in one place as a reference. I've used it quite a few times and learned a great deal about Outlook 2007 and was able to troubleshoot any issues I ran into.

I had the 2003 version of this text and wore it out. It was the one Access book I read the most, and I had several. I bought this version when my department upgraded to Access 2007 (this year!). I still think it is the best all around Access book on the market.If you don't know already, then I'll tell you. Access 2007 is a completely different animal from 2003. Not only does it look different and act different, it has features and capabilities that 2003 never dreamed of. I'm not an Access pro, but I'm not a rank beginner either. I started with chapter one and I'm working my way through the entire book. I'm surprised at how much I've learned already. The book is particularly useful on the many occasions when I yank it off the shelf to answer one of those "How in the heck do I do [x]?" questions. Not all books can perform equally well as a comprehensive textbook and a handy reference guide. This one does.However, the one glaring weakness of this text is the accompanying CD. Some of the sample databases on the CD trigger errors in the VBA code when I try to open them. Apparently, I don't know enough VBA to figure out what's wrong, so they're basically useless. Other sample databases can't be used at all unless you first install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express, then figure out how to configure it, and the sample databases, so that the sample databases will open. Good luck with that, I still haven't managed it. In other words, the entire CD is basically a no-go. Without the examples, it's often difficult to follow along with explanations in the text. If you don't have a copy of a database that you can experiment with, I suggest you create one as you go. Save extra copies of it just in case you accidentally kill one. With a better CD I would have rated this text 5 stars instead of 3.One more thing. This book will teach you how to use a piece of database software. It is not intended to be a textbook on database design. If you have no familiarity with relational databases and how to properly design them, I doubt that this or any other Access book will help you very much. This is one area in which a grounding in the fundamentals is essential. It will save you a ton of frustration and dozens of hours of wasted effort. Trust me, as one who learned the hard way.
